Ongoing List Of Enjoyable Activities

June 16, 2016

When you're going through something tough, it can be far too easy to get caught up in everything that's going wrong in your life. After a while, it can weigh you down like a sack of potatoes. Although it's easier for me to tell you "it gets better" or "try staying positive", life tends to be faaaaaar more complex than that. As I went through therapy, the one thing being stressed whenever someone felt like they were close to relapsing was to find an activity they loved to do, and find time every week to do it. But Theresa, that's not always realistic. Well, no kidding, but isn't it worth it to at least try? I know I'm probably going to tell myself Theresa, why the hell did you say you were going to try to do this on my bad weeks, but you know what? If you do something often enough, it becomes routine and it feels like you have something to look forward to.

Recently, one of my closest friends Cody demanded (well he suggested VERY strongly) that we go to aquafit every week together. I love the water, and he could tell I wasn't going because I felt so out of place being 40 years everyone's junior, so he bit the bullet and said we were going together. It's been almost 6 weeks and I kind of look forward to it now. I feel exhausted after, even if I try to take it slow, but I feel like I'm actually doing something good for my body, and I get to hand with him every Friday and sometimes get breakfast after, which I also enjoy very much! So here's an ongoing and ever changing list of enjoyable things you can do to help with creating a routine. Some are easier than others, so go at your own pace!
